Celebrating a child’s innate desire to explore, create and transform ordinary materials into something magical, EtonHouse invites you and your child to a day of Pop-Up Adventure Play. What does it look like? You will find an abundance of open-ended recycled materials that can be transformed into different artefacts. Activities and materials laid out by us will be chosen by children and imaginative forms of play will arise from intrinsic motivation. Children will explore their own ideas: discover, construct, problem solve, and transform. In one morning, a giant cardboard box can change from a secret fort, to a ship, to a skyscraper. Our warm and highly skilled educators will engage with and support you and your child in enabling these transformations. “Pop-Up” is a celebration of child-initiated play, best characterized by an abundance of loose parts (e.g., cardboard boxes, fabric, tape, string, etc.). Pop-Up Adventure Plays are community spaces that encourage free play. You can read about this wonderful way of enhancing your child’s creativity and find useful resources at http://www.popupadventureplay.org/ Playwork is a professional field of practice in the UK and abroad, and is unique in its framework for understanding, discussing, and advocating for children’s basic play needs.
